Things We Love

Debbie Anzalone’s mesmerising exploration of The Tate Tanks

The Tanks are Tate’s latest exhibition space, housing a spectacular series of events over the coming months. Debbie Anzalone’s poetic documentary centres on one of the flagship exhibitions – that of Sung Hwan Kim. The film beautifully explores the curves and textures of the space, as well as providing a fascinating insight into the work of an iconic artist.

Golden Wolf Go Wild on a Great Wall

When BXFTYS (that’s ‘Box Of Toys Audio’ for any readers who don’t speak East London) decided to spruce up their Netil House recording studio, they called in the prolific talent of Golden Wolf to design and institute a stunning wall mural. The result is, predictably, quite magnificent.

Check out the ‘making of’ film here.

Seye’s Mexicana Bounce rounds off a legendary summer in East London!

The summer, such as it was, is drawing to a close. But try telling that to Bromley’s own indefatigable Seye. His infectious new track Mexicana Bounce is a final gust of summery, tropical pop (trop-pop anyone?)

Zaiba Jabbar’s breezy and playful video pays homage to the vibrant and magical area that impressed the entire world this summer… East London. Fittingly, a remix of the track was played during the Paralympics opening ceremony.

These four spots for Doing Something, a new UK-based dating site, will put anyone off from trying the dating game without signing up for Doing Something first.

It will especially help those who are on their first dates and attending Lexi Cinema’s super cool Where Is the Nomad screening series, starting later this month, where the ‘Menu’ spot will be screening ahead of each film.

Most overlooked Olympic event: the 10 Meter Zombie Lurch

Now that the London 2012 Olympics are over, it’s time to look back at all those great moments that will surely go down in sporting history. Especially considering how many important competitions were happening simultaneously, everyone obviously had a hard time keeping track of all those monumental triumphs. Some really terrific races were completely overlooked.

For example, the 10 Meter Zombie Lurch. Wait, what?

Philip Andelman brings out the devil in Norah Jones

Philip Andelman and Norah Jones joined forces to create an unbelievably haunting and dark video for her latest single, Miriam. Beautifully shot in one fluid motion, this seemingly serene video nonchalantly veers to some pretty dark territory. It goes without saying, the response online has been great, as all you readers of SpinStereogum or Death and Taxeswill already know. Or any of the other countless blogs whose jaws dropped just a little bit after seeing it.

Entertainment Weekly went on to say‘…it seems the devil himself has nothing on Norah Jones.’

For sure. Check it out yourself.

Matthias Hoene and a bunch of Cockneys fight Zombies in London

The Olympics are drawing to a close, so forget about all of that, there’s a whole new rivalry coming to London, with guns and gore and lots, lots of zombies. Well, more specifically the east end of London, so those of you who’ve got a good grasp on the city’s geography, you’ll know there’s only one group of residents that would dare take on a zombie invasion. Cockneys.

So, we’re all very excited to show you the first trailer for Cockneys vs Zombies, the carnage-y new feature directed by Matthias Hoene. The synopsis sums it all up nicely:

A bunch of eastenders fight their way out of a zombie infested London, lead by an unlikely gang of amateur banks robbers and foul-mouthed plucky pensioners.

While it’s certainly not for the squeamish, it’ll be a real treat for all you zombie connoisseurs out there. Everyone, from Entertainment Weekly to Total Film and Empire seem to be pretty excited as well, the latter saying, ‘there’s no doubt this tale of Cockney bank robbers taking on the undead hordes is several imperial tonnes of fun.’

Stay tuned for release date info, but in the meantime, check out the trailer.

Warren Fu creates visual concept for The Killers new album

Not content simply helming award-winning and attention-grabbing music videos for the likes of Daft Punk, Mark Ronson, and The Strokes, Warren Fu has stepped his creative mastery up a notch with this latest project for The Killers ‘Battle Born’ LP.

Warren not only directed the moody yet colourful first music video, he also created the entire visual concept of the album, and designed and painted the album cover (below).

The result is a visually eloquent, well-rounded and beautiful piece of art to compliment the latest outing from this iconic rock band.
